With a mix of actionable advice and inspiring personal stories, this podcast gives you the tools to grow your influence, impact, and income—by mastering the art of storytelling.
And as for me? I’m Shannon Jenkins. I’ve helped executives at Fortune 500 companies like Google, Nespresso, Nestlé, and KPMG—plus some of the biggest online creators— create presentations that get people to sit up, lean in, and take action. But what really lights me up? Helping entrepreneurs, coaches, and consultants find stories that feel real—the ones that connect on a human level and inspire lasting change. (And we’ll have fun along the way, because let’s face it — JOY is the secret to real success).

Ep.51 Cult survivor's lessons on truth, freedom, and education w/Petra Velzeboer
Petra was born and raised in the infamous Children of God cult, conditioned to believe that she was being groomed to save the world. Being punished, shamed and ostracised for not ‘following the rules’, was the norm. As was being ‘home-schooled’ and moving countries to join a new ‘commune’ every year or so. It led to depression, alcohol addiction and suicidal ideation. Fast-forwarding some years, Petra is now a psychotherapist, renowned mental health expert, TEDx speaker and the CEO of mental health consultancy PVL.
In this episode we discuss Petra’s ‘starting over story’ from her childhood in the cult, to ‘escaping’ to London, and discovering truth, freedom and education.
We also discuss mental health in the workplace, including some common (unhelpful) misconceptions like if someone is aware of, or struggles with, their mental health they are not good at their job, or that if mental health issues are actually spoken about at work, they will get worse. Petra shares what YOU can do to change the culture, starting now.
